5-Hydroxtryptophan (5-HTP) is a naturally occurring amino acid, a precursor to the neurotransmitterr serotonin. It is marketed in the United States and other countries as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid. Many people dieting claim that when they use 5-HTP it decreases the craving for carbs. At this point the medical community has yet to confirm these claims so it’s wise to consult a physician before taking this supplement.
It’s recommended to take 5-HTPt on an empty stomach in the morning and night. Start by taking 50 mg per dose and after a week the morning dose can increase to 100 mg.
